KEPS Program
Are any children on your caseload in the care of relatives or non-related extended family members? REFER THEM TO KEPS!
KEPS (pronounced "keeps") is Kinship Education, Preparation, & Support, and is a no-cost training program for formal kinship care providers in Los Angeles County.
- Meet the safety, emotional and developmental needs of the child(ren) placed in their care
- Learn how to work with local school systems and other educational resources
- Support adolescents in achieving successful emancipation
- Join an ongoing informal social support network made up of relative caregivers
- Understand "the DCFS System", including: ASFA guidelines, the approval process, the language and protocol of the Court process, concurrent planning and permanence.
Workshop Structure and Topics
The KEPS workshop series is an interactive activity, conducted by a team of three facilitators who lead the KEPS participants through an informative and supportive experience. Workshops are available days, evenings, and Saturdays and are offered free of charge to relative and non-relative extended family member caregivers currently working with DCFS.

- Assessing and Building on the Strengths and Meeting the Needs of Children In My Care
- Preparing Children and Youth for The Future
- Understanding the Issues of Birth Parents
- Working with Birth Parents To Achieve Permanency for Their Children
- Networking and Moving Ahead
Free Childcare Opportunity
Many qualified KEPS participants are now eligible for up to 6 months of full time childcare.
