"Improving Children’s Safety, Well-being and Permanency through Evidence-Based Practice, Research and Evaluation”
Vision:
To investigate what interventions improve our children’s safety, permanency, and well-being.

Mission:
To assess and coordinate student and professional assessments of DCFS children and youth’s longitudinal outcomes and satisfaction with DCFS service delivery/collaboration.

Goals:
Monitor trends, assess data availability and review research relevant to Children and Family Services;

Assist DCFS in identifying priority needs, design evaluation systems to measure the impact of DCFS programs, make recommendations to increase program efficiency and effectiveness, and provide information to community partners.
 


The System Improvement & Research Section

The System Improvement and Research (SIR) Section of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is responsible for:

  • DCFS’s ability to successfully implement its Strategic Plan, which provides goal setting, capacity-building and implementation planning.
  • DCFS-wide systems change supported by on-going research.
  • Ensuring DCFS has the capability to successfully research and make recommendations towards improved organizational functioning.
SIR Section is also responsible for managing external research requests and coordinating data extraction requests.

Ethical Principles

The key ethical principle for all research within DCFS is the protection and safety of children and families by safeguarding the confidentiality of private information and the protection of human subjects.

The three ethical principles in the Belmont Report guide all DCFS research requiring human subjects:

  • Respect for Persons
  • Beneficence
  • Justice
